Should MPG or in this case GPM minimum standards for commercial airplanes be raised in order to keep tickets?

Stan S asked:

cheap for the consumer, maintain profits for the airline industry, reduce fossil fuel use, reduce global warming, help achieve energy independence, create jobs, green the industry, reduce polution, help use resources more efficiently, could be done completely openly without anything needing to be done behind closed doors, it would make shipping cargo or mail by air cheaper, reduce the need for federal bailouts and subsidies, stimulate the economy, provide a greening model for ship building, and comerical trucking manufacturing industries and it would be easy to do accomplishing at least sixteen things simultainiously and easily? If that doesn’t fully justify it how many reasons do you think one needs for something to be accepted as an offical political or governmental goal to actually be acomplished these days?
